Kathryn Gorman Ponds Park

Overview

Kathryn Gorman Ponds Park is a hidden gem tucked away in a residential neighborhood. With 159 bird species documented to date, it offers excellent birding throughout the year but truly shines during spring and fall migration.

During migration, an impressive variety of warblers and other songbirds can be found throughout the park, along with several species of shorebirds. The park is also one of the best places to observe Green Herons. While these birds are often elusive, they tend to be remarkably tolerant of people here, offering exceptional viewing opportunities.

Birding Kathryn Gorman Ponds Park

Park in the small lot on Senator Levy Drive. Do not park on roads as this is a private neighborhood.

Several short, interconnected trails make it easy to explore the preserve without feeling lost.

If possible, take the Daniel Beers Trail. Just beyond the pine grove is a small open area that can be particularly productive during migration. Listen for Pine Warblers singing their trilling song.

Another good area is the tree line across the large pond, where migrating songbirds and other interesting species are often tucked into the vegetation.
