These ponds were created as drainage ponds during construction of the nearby data center.
Birding the Rockland Psych Center Ponds
Walk up the short rocky pathway to the gate of the larger south pond. Though access is permitted, it is generally a clear view down on the pond from outside the gate except when vegetation is tallest. (Please close the gate if you do enter.)
The site is known for hosting a variety of shorebirds, waterfowl and wading birds. The north pond is smaller, generally doesn't have as much variety, but is worth checking out. Grassy areas outside the fence are a favorite for sparrows and Palm Warblers. Thus far, 122 species have been documented here.

The path to the pond is extremely rocky.

Parking is informally permitted on 3rd Ave, across from the site in front of an unused building.
Entering 42 Assembly Place, Orangeburg into maps should get you to the correct location, which is the corner of Third Avenue and Oak Street.
