Tallman Mountain State Park

Overview

Tallman Mountain State Park comprises wooded country on the easterly slope of the Palisades uplands overlooking the Hudson and Piermont Marsh, which lies between the river and the slope. The marsh is part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. The park operates as a day-use area, offering a running track, tennis courts, playfield, cross country skiing, a walking trail, hiking and picnic areas.

Birding Here

When eBirding Tallman Mountain State Park, please note that there are several hotspots within the park. Be sure to select the appropriate hotspot when submitting your list.

The 9W entrance and surrounding trails can be very productive for both migrating and breeding birds, with nearly 200 species documented throughout the park. Follow the main trail straight through, and for those who enjoy exploring, several side trails offer additional opportunities to discover birds and other wildlife. Alternately, enter via Rockland Road, park your car and walk up, or when open, drive up to the picnic area.

The picnic area is another productive location, and during winter, the overlook provides a beautiful view of the marsh, where waterfowl and other wetland species may be observed.
